Our exhibition offers new experiences regarding the painting of the regime change`s period, stemming from the activities of a deeply interested and persevering private collector.
In the Pedit collection, many works focused on light: alongside pieces invoking the landscapes of the universe and the dimensions of infinity, light is also represented as a component of colors, directly embodying the fundamental propositions of painting. Among the works, there are pieces that employ the broadest spectrum of colors, strive for monochromity and the use of gold to suggest the transcendent.
However, the paintings do not merely depict the planetary vistas of time and space; the poetic titles and the use of forms previously characteristic in art history also raise critical aspects with humor—sometimes pointing to spheres beyond the dynamics of society, and at other times alluding to political or scientific utopias.
These works - created in the late '80s and early '90s - mostly went to foreign private collections directly from the studios, that is why they were only partially present in the discourse on the art of the era. However, by now being made public, they can also shape our knowledge about this period.
